Description

Mini Train - Functional Hogwarts Diorama

The Mini Train series doesn't stop! This is the fifth Mini Train Diorama. I decided to design a harry potter scenery, with the legendary Hogwarts Express. The terrain includes the "Hogsmeade" train station, the Hogwarts castle and as special the arched bridge (Glenfinnan Viadukt). This was the first attempt to add a bit of height to the tracks. And it works! The train drives over the slope of the bridge without any problems. As in the other dioramas, you can turn the  hand-wheel on the outside to let the little train drive.

The new Hogwarts express is compatible to the previous designs. (Mountain V1.2)

All printed parts are designed to get an good result with a 0,4 nozzle and with minimal color changes to reduce waste.

Printing:

Note that some parts are very small. Good adhesion is necessary!

Following PLA Basic Filaments are used

Silver

Brown

Black

Mistletoe Green

+ Bambu Green for mixing up trees

+ Cyan & Beige for the castle

+ Red and Gold for the train

Other colors are possible of course, look what you have in stock.

I think it could be easy done with single color, if you want to color from hand.

I printed with a 0,4mm nozzle! Iam very pleased with the result but you can try a 0,2 nozzle as well.

Assembly:

*new Video is coming watch from the previous design:

→Insta

Optional: Smooth the slope from the bridge with sandpaper, scraper or a sharp knife for the best result.

Used a triangular scraper to smooth the layer lines a bit.

You need 6pcs round 4x2 magnets magnets for assembly.

  • Insert 3pcs  Magnets in the train and wagon with same polarity
  • Insert Magnets in the 3 pins all with same polarity but opposite direction than before! The Pins must attract the train
Insert the pins, use the train to hold them in  place.
Arrange the pins so that they are caught by the wheel and press it into position
  • Terrain on top and press trees in the holes. You can add a bit of glue to combine.
  • Also glue the train station and the castle in the position
  • Place the train to the magnetic position and have fun 😀👍

I hope you like this little project.

Wow, what an awesome diorama! I highly recommend this print to any Harry Potter fans. You will not be disappointed! I wanted to add water without changing the print, so I just used a blue acrylic paint marker. Worked great!

Really cool. Yeah it looks so much better with water. I definitely must do that, too. Although the bridge in the movie doesn't go over water, does it?

Replying to @BamBamDesign :
I’d have to double check, but I think it crossed a river at some point. However, I just thought it would be cool to paint it to represent the lake at the castle. Definitely looks great without the water as well!

The original design was superb! However, I wanted the entire area under the bridge to be a lake, so I modified the model, and the result is quite impressive. I'm sharing it with everyone here

Absolutely stunning design! It's especially fascinating seeing how the train can cross the bridge. I highly recommend this model to everyone. I hand-painted the station building to save printing time and because I didn't have a great filament match. With filament colour changes, this is a very involved project, but also very special and worthwhile.

So cute. Well thought out and imaginative! First time with a “mechanized” print, went together super easily. Thank you!
