This is a Baking Soda (or Elephant's Toothpaste) Volcano for the Geology/Geography Studies
Design Contest, more specifically, the geology part. All you do is mix the ingredients for either one in the volcano and watch it go.
Baking Soda + Vinegar:
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ tbsp vinegar
- 3 drops of red food dye
- 1 ½ tbsp baking soda
Instructions:
- Mix the vinegar and red food dye in the volcano. (A funnel may be useful)
- Pour in the baking soda. (DON'T USE A FUNNEL; it can and will clog before all the baking soda comes out)
- Watch the ‘lava’ come bubbling out.
Elephant's Toothpaste
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ tbsp hydrogen peroxide (The higher the concentration, the better)
- 3 drops of red food dye
- 1 squirt dish soap
- 1 tsp yeast
Instructions:
- Mix the hydrogen peroxide with the red food dye, and dish soap. (A funnel may be useful)
- Pour in the yeast. (DON'T USE A FUNNEL; it can and will clog before all the yeast comes out)
- Watch the ‘lava’ come slowly bubbling out.
Notes:
- The Elephant's Toothpaste is very slow so be patient
- In the image attached for the Elephant's Toothpaste I forgot to add the red food dye and the dish soap so I had to add the red food dye afterword. This is why the color isn't very pronounced.
- AMS not required
- Any filament works, but I recommend using a dark brown filament so it looks more like a volcano. (For the images attached, I didn't have any, so I used a glow-in-the-dark filament.)
