Description

A new lightsaber variation inspired by the grueling duel between Family Guy's Stewie and Herbert. Twisting the lightsaber one way turns the blade into a floppy mess while twisting it the other way makes it ready for action.

The print-in-place hinge is angled so the blade will remain straight when oriented one way and will hinge when rotated 180 degrees. Parts print in separate pieces to attempt to maximize strength and allow for multicolored prints without an AMS. The multicolored hilt - front fake button can be achieved via AMS or by moving the piece to it's own plate, inserting a pause at layer 79-81 depending on how you'd like the fake button colored, and manually swapping the filament before resuming.

A1 mini compatible using the Floppy Saber - A1 mini print profile. Larger build plates can use the Floppy Saber print profile.

Part names:

Assembly:

  1. After all parts are printed, combine hilt - front and back and slide on a few of the hilt-ribs. This helps with alignment in the next step.
  2. Screw on hilt - bottom to hilt - front/back.
  3. Slide on remaining hilt - rib parts.
  4. Screw on blade - bottom to the completed hilt assembly, and then screw the blade - top to the blade - bottom.

Screwable parts fit firm and don't require glue. If having trouble aligning the threads before screwing, attempt to start the male end roughly a quarter turn counterclockwise from the female end before rotating together.

Stand:

  • Clamps, arms, and base snap together
    • Ensure round bits on the tabs are facing the face plate for proper orientation
    • Arms have a fairly firm fit on the base and require a slightly more than average amount of force
  • Face plate lays on the front and requires glue for a permanent hold
  • Blank face plate included if you'd like to add your own text in Bambu Studio

I scaled it to 140% and it printed without any issues. I really enjoy and like the great design, all parts fit together perfectly, no need for any glue or other post-print adjustments, it just fits and works. one of the most solid and easy to assemble prints I have printed so far!! I have yet to determine if the 140% version will withstand its own weight and the stand is up next. Thank you for that great piece! PS: I added a pen to the pictures to show the size if the 140% print. I used PLA+
