Description

Summary

Cover cap for (pre-)drilled holes. Updated 29-aug-2018.

Use it in your kitchen cabinet to cover peg-holes and keep it clean and more water-resistant (you don't want water in your particle-board). Or use it for any other hole you want to cover. Also usable for (cosmetic) endcaps for pipes and tubes*.

It's a tight fit but still removable if you want.

The cap is almost fully customizable in OpenScad** or online derivatives***.

For your convenience there are also four stl's for 5 (ikea), 6 (other brands) and 8 mm (most popular dowel). The print-profiles are using these.

Slicing:

  • Slice it with concentric infill for the best and smoothest result for smaller diameters (<12 mm).

Printing:

  • It's a small part so you need good bed-adhesion.
  • I tested it from 5 mm and up, they all gave a good result.
  • No support needed.
  • PLA works fine but PETG is somewhat better

Happy covering :)

*Larger plug-diameters (>25 mm) are also working (tested at 40 mm). So you can use it for (cosmetic) end-caps for pipes for example. Don't make the length of the plug too short for larger diameters or it will snap off. To be save (I hope) and if you can, use at least a plug-length of 15 mm for diameters larger then 20 mm.

Great print! I needed a single cap to cover a chipboard hole. Customized for a 20mm diameter hole, increasing depth to 15mm as suggested. Perfect snug fit, first print. The only additional customisation I wanted was to add a bit of thickness to the center of the cap (for strength) while maintaining the 1mm thickness at outside of the cap (for a low profile finish). For my 20mm hole it was still strong enough with just a little flex as I pushed it in.

Thanks for sharing:) Add the following line at the complete end of the code to reinforce the cap at the inside: cylinder (h=1, d=diamplug*0.9,$fn=32); ------ Change h = 1 for your own thickness (h stands for height cylinder (now 1 mm), d for diameter (duh) and $fn for the number of facets of the cylinder). Change 0.9 to a smaller number if you want a smaller reinforcement.

I stumbled upon the "Cover cap for (drill) holes" while exploring files on Maker World for my Bambu Lab A1 Mini. Although the caps are originally intended for covering drill holes, I found an innovative way to use them as end caps for S-hooks on my tension rod, which holds my kitchen tools. This simple modification has completely solved the issue of the hooks falling off. It's not the intended use, but it turned out to be a perfect fit! I'm extremely pleased with this solution and would recommend it to anyone looking for a creative way to secure S-hooks.

Sincerely thank you; for making a customisable model. I have been looking for a 'plug' and haven't been able to find the right size until now. Being able to set the sizes is great for those of us yet to master modelling design. Printed in stone look PLA to fit the holes in a water feature. Worked a treat.

Yes, the profile works and works very well, but I tried the cap for 8mm drill holes in stone. You can forget that, the idea is good but the hole is not exactly 8.0, the tolerance would have to be somewhere between 8.9 and 9.1 or so for the cap to hold properly.

Ok don't understand the low rating then. The cap is fully and easily customizable in makerworld, click on the customize button.
