Description

This is a remix of a remix… But it still works! I used the original design for the screw hole positions, but I basically had to redraw this in Fusion as the original designs were not made public. Compared to the original:

  • I removed the handle (I did not have any use for it)
  • I added a guide for the spool holder to mount onto
  • I moved the Bowden tube connector hole to the front of the mount
  • I uploaded the STEP file here for future users to modify at will!

Now I can have two spools of filament mounted on my machine, ready to go!

But Why, you may ask? Well, I only have one A1 Mini with an AMS Lite. My other mini's still only have one spool. Sometimes I have models that require a single colour change, but to do this is very painful: You can only pause between layers, when changing filament you have to remove the entire spool out of the tube, load the new spool…

The A1 Mini has a filament buffer by default that can accept four rolls of filament. So to make my workflow a little easier, I used the excellent community modified g-code that allows the printer to pause mid-layer. The modified g-code and this model here allows me to simply pull back the filament about an inch on Spool A, and then push filament from Spool B about an inch. No more pulling the entire roll off the machine!

Just to clarify: are these g-code modifications reversible?

Yes, this is all in the slicer. When you modify the Gcode you will be forced to create a new printer definition, so you can still select the "stock" printer profile if you want to use the original gcode.

Where can I find the spool holder? Only the base is present, the spool holder is missing

This was designed to use the "stock" A1 Mini spool holder. In my case I had a spare spool holder from another machine that I used here.
