Description

A growing number of my models (particularly those in my Passive Magnetic Stabilization collection) require or benefit from a magnet insertion tool. It helps ensure correct polarity (north vs. south) and also helps prevent magnets stealthily flipping as you insert them.

While other such tools are available, I created my own because some of my models are easier to assemble with a finer tipped tool. Rather than continue to include this tool in my new models, this listing will be my go-to link.

Instructions

Print the tool and then stick one 4x2 mm magnet into each end (glue shouldn’t be necessary), ensuring proper polarity. While you can verify absolute polarity, it won’t matter for most projects so long as both ends of the tool are opposite. Press firmly against a flat surface to fully push in the magnet.

No issues, simple tool that does its job. Dug up the old scouting compass to make sure I had my N's and S's right.

The tool should work well as-is with magnets of those sizes. The smaller size of the tip helps with accurate placement. If you really need something to match those sizes, you should be able to scale up the Y and Z dimensions of the tool, though I haven't tested this out. If you do, just make sure to deselect "uniform scale." You want to scale the whole tool so that each hole ends up about 0.14mm wider than the magnet. For an 8mm wide magnet, scaling the Y and Z dimensions of the whole tool by 196.75% should work in theory. But again, the tool as-is should work for most scenarios.

Handy little tool! I see myself using this for more than just the Enigma Tower print, though it was definitely needed there.
