Description

The jewelry box with a classy-cutesy heart pattern

This  jewelry box is designed to keep your cherished accessories organized and tangle-free.

Boost Me (for free)

Well, if you want !? It means a lot to me :D

Boosts also help me justify my protopyping to my wife... 😅

The lid / top

The lid features a debossed heart pattern embracing the line effect of printing mid air, inside you'll find the following features:

  • Hooks for your tangle prone jewelery (necklaces, bracelets…). Printed horizontally for sturdiness and flexibility, super-glue them in !
  • Vertical separators to make sure everything remains tangle free.
  • A small incline lip, to make sure nothing gets caught in the hinge and goes on the middle separator instead.
  • A customizable text, perhaps to make a loved one remember you love them, or make them laugh.

The lid separator

There's a middle separator between the lid and the base, as a way to maintain necklaces in the top of the box.  Marying function and beauty, I placed holes in the separator as a way to store and display stud/stab type earrings.

The base

  • Separators : The separators allows for future (and current! See print profiles!) inserts. Also, maybe you want to segment where you put what.
  • There are different bases options, with separators by default, but there's also a profile with alternative options : without separators for a more “throw it in” use case and deeper bases for those of you with more treasure to organize !

The hinges

Features on hinges? What do you mean? Yup! I'm sure you've seen those little strings, on the commercial options found online, tucked and glued behind some felt, they inevitably end up breaking. Well, with the joys of 3d printing, we have POWER: manufacturing a better solution. I added a simple tab on the outer eyelet, the base rests against the lid and vice versa, at the perfect angle (Well I hope you like it anyway…).

… As a gift ?

Who doesnt like a personalized gift ? Find the person's favorite colors (atleast for the inside accents?) and print away! HINT: the closed box fits perfectly inside a bambu refill box!

Colors ?
Pictured, an elegant matte charcoal and gold for a loved one, you still have time before valentine's day! A little jewelry dangling hidden in there with cute text sure would make for the perfect gift!

Go crazy for your daughters! Pink and purple? White and red ? A bit of paint-in and color swap by layer? RAINBOW! … Sorry I'm getting carried away here…

Happy printing !

How do i personalise text ?

Right click on the pre-existing text added in-sliced and click edit-text. You can also add your own text pretty much on any flat surface easily, use the text tool at the top of the screen!

Printing:

All the plates are compatibles with the A1, I need to re-upload a profile showing that.

The lid has an intricate pattern on the first layers, make sure that your plate is clean (scrub with dish soap and rinse with a lot of hot water). I recommend watching the first layer.

In my profiles, I added a height range modifier, the section of the print including the hinges is printed with more walls to make sure nothing breaks, both in the bases and the lid.

Assembly:

  1. Put a dab of glue inside the 5 hook receptacles and push the hooks in. They are not a 90 degree angle, the bottom end of the hook will rest against the inside of the box.
  2. Place a dab of glue inside the separator's hole, and push a magnet in.
  3. Place a dab of glue inside the lid's hole and push a magnet in, when closed, both magnets should be able to touch each others (watch out for polarity)
  4. Deburr the lid's internal holes with a small pointy object, simply make sure they are “round”.
  5. Lightly bend the middle separator and align the pins into the lid's holes.
  6. One at a time, put a dab of glue inside of the dowel's caps, push the dowel in it. if the fit is too hard, you can scrape it a little bit, the cap serves no mechanical purpose other than making sure it remains in the hole. You should have two open ended dowels.
  7. Put the lid on the base.
  8. Push the dowels in the holes while lightly wiggling the top up and down (there is about 0.5mm clearance) and glue the other end on.

Notes:
Comment below if you'd like something more, have ideas, want another magnet hole size, no magnet , etc.

There is a tiny weeny gap between the two faces when closed, it is not noticeable, but it allows for a little bit of felt to be glued on around the outer rim for a satisfying closing sound. The square is 162mmx162mm with 4mm walls

Updates

  1. 02-09 Added a profile with about double the height for the base.
  2. 02-09 Added a profile for 6x2mm magnets.
  3. 02-10 Added a profile for 5x3 magnets.
  4. 02-10 Added a profile for a ring organizer that fits in the little compartments.
  5. 02-12 Removed an extrusion in the lid on the sides by the internal hinges
  6. (Coming soon!) Adding an insert for “fishhook style” earrings
  7. (Coming soon?) Working on an A1 mini compatible resize.

Seak peek

First little base insert idea for fishhook earrings modeled, sent to print and I'll see the result tommorrow morning! I should be able to sneak in modiifcations during my breaks and lunch  !

Really cool design. Waiting to print this, but I only have an A1 mini... any hint when we might see an A1 mini version? :)

Sorry about that, totally got out of my mind, I even actually printed one but forgot to do the final little tweaks. Do you have a prefered magnet size ?

4x2, 5x3, 6x3; I'd be happy with any of those sizes :)

Love this so much. What would be awesome is an insert for rings in one of the left hand sections

I'm wondering, do most people have TPU on hand? Do you have TPU?

This is fantastic. My wife loved it! I printed it in Black Walnut Wood PLA, with Silk Gold for the text and hooks, black for the hinge pins, and jade white PLA the the ring insert. Prints easy. I ended up having to use a bring for the hinge pin pieces, as it came off my print bed a couple times without it. Despite de-burring and trimming, I had a difficult time getting the hinge assemblies to fit well. Used the 6x3 magnet version (I don't have any 8mm), and the magnets work just great. But it's great! Thank you!

I'm sorry, BLACK WALNUT WOOD PLA !? I'm going to have to order that. Yeah, I'm aware about people havig difficulty with the caps/rods, I've been swamped the last few days, but I'll definetly post little caps with larger holes, I need to make tests with a few filaments I think.

I dont want to post something without testing and my printer is busy the next hours... (Completly not telling you to "do it youself", just a FYI if you or someone reading wonders how to do that stuff) If it was not my model to make it easier on myself, that's what I'd try: I'd recommend adding a negative part to a cap, reiszing it to the cap's hole size, moving it relative to the object (cap) in 0 0 0, then move (Z) so the top if aligned with the top of the cap, then adjust X and Y size as needed. I tried to do a resize for the A1 mini earlier, and that's basically what I did instead of using CAD. Once you got a part+negative, you can copy and paste them, the copies will remain aligned.

The rods/caps were printed in eSun Black PLA+. The black walnut wood PLA is just BBL off their website. It's quite lovely.

Thanks for the nice design, printed in black with "Silver" and looking good. Used 6x4 mm magnets and that was fine. Had to "rework" the hing pin to get the dowels on it, but that was very easy. 2 boosts for you.

@raphlemelin It is in use now and everybody is happy with it. Just two "tips": the holes for the earrings are to tight, I used 2mm drill bit and now they are fine. When the necklace is small it could jam the hinge. (it goes in between the lid and the box) maybe you could design an "edge" on the lower part of the lid, so that a necklace stays in the lid and could not come between the lid and the box. Just my two cents.

Ah for the lip I tried to put one, but if I go any steeper it would start to print mid air, I'll see if I can think of something to print separately

love it! used resin to fill in the hearts on top. used a rock PETG for the majority and one black petg for some parts that didn’t fit well with the rock filament.

Hey! This model looks so good, it is possible to have a version for 5*3 mm magnets, or is it fine for you if I try to remix your project? I have to ask as you Licence does not allow to do derivatives, that are shared again. also got a boost for the prototyping :-)

I'll make one for you, the dimensions are all in parameters, it's a few clicks for me, I never tried 5mm magnets, do you know ideal tolerances for them? for example. both 6 and 8mm magnets fit perfectly in printed 6.2 and 8.2mm holes. I'd assume 5.2, but if you can print a little test thta'd be good

It's done and uploaded! Please update me on the fit! The middle separator pannel has a "rim" that'll be 1mm thicker than the other versions, to accomodate for the thickness of the magnet. The top is also adjusted so that the panel still sits flush. FYI if you haven't printed a base yet, I'm adding a ring organiser later today, currently printing what I'm hoping is the final prototype. it'll fit inside the little sections of the base.

You have problems with your holes in 5x3mm model. Magnet hole for the lid is 5.2mm in diameter. Separator is 6.2mm like it is supposed to and fits a magnet but not the lid. Also didn't check the sizes in assembly but I couldn't fit the assembly rods to the rod covers while assembling. I am assuming there is an error there too.

Yes, sorry about the separator, it has been corrected earlier today, I checked the option to notify users. For the rods, they do require a bit of force but should fit on. They can (or the caps) be resized in the slicer for a "slip on" fit, or just scrape of a bit or roll them on your counter if they have a bit of elephant footing

to give you an idea, my charcoal matte fits relatively easily with a bit of pressure, but when printed with my sunlu pla+ white, the fit is less easy. You're right that it's not the most intuitive, I'll see what I can do to make it nicer!

You mean the lid right? Separator was ok. Lid hole was too small for magnet.
