Dragon's Katana – Dragon Scales – A Stunning Decorative Model for Enthusiasts

Introducing the Dragon's Katana – Dragon Scales, a stunning decorative model inspired by legendary sword designs. This unique katana features an intricately designed hilt adorned with dragon scales, giving it a fierce and majestic look. Perfect for anime fans, collectors, and cosplay enthusiasts, this collapsible katana blends artistry with clever functionality, making it a must-have for any sword aficionado.

One of the standout features of this design is its ability to be printed without supports, ensuring smooth production on most 3D printers, including the Bambu Lab A1 Mini! The collapsible mechanism adds an interactive touch, making it more than just a display piece—it’s a rewarding build and an eye-catching addition to any collection.

I’d love to see your prints! Share your photos and feedback in the comments—I’m excited to see how yours turned out and what color combinations you chose for the dragon-scale details!

You can choose between two print profiles: one where all elements are connected, allowing you to print a fully assembled sword, and another version where the sword and blades are printed separately, with a cap to seal the casing.

Pro Tips:

  • Ensure your print bed has good adhesion to prevent failures, especially for larger pieces. If needed, a touch of glue can make a big difference.
  • This model is intended as a decorative item only and is not suitable for use as a weapon or for rough play.

I hope you enjoy bringing this design to life!

Strength Issue:why!??! the end cap broke of after simple use and I didn't even use it that much 😭 please make it stronger so people don't waste 150ish grams of filament. expensive mistake it needs about 5-10% more infill

While the katana looks and feels amazing. de "cap" on the bottom side was either too thin or had a poort connections. it lasted for about 3 minutes. beside that it does look incredible! Printer on the A1, 100% scale, bambulab Silk PLA. One part: 6h print profile - 0.28mm layer, 2 walls, 5%

I had this issue when printing a similarly design. funny enough the main factor was the filmanet. I used regular PLA for some and then silk PLA for others and the silk PLA bottom kept breaking off no matter what I did

Wow! This really was a great print. Printed almost flawlessly with no clean up needed or supports to remove.

thats absolutely a printer/filament issue. your blade pieces orinted together. you probably need to adjust your x-y contour compensation or elephant foot compensation. i have mine dialed in and the blade popped out the moment i pulled it off the bed.

came out perfect. very smart adding that removable nub for the tip with the tacks. I set mine to print over night

can you explain what that's used for?

helps with keeping the part adhered to the print bed.

because the tip of the katana comes to a “sharp” point the removable nub and tacks help give the tip more bed adhesion and stability when printing. especially at high speeds. this also helps give the actual part of the model a cleaner look with such a “sharp angle”. these are typically added in substitutions to support as they give cleaner and purposeful placement without harming the outer face of the model. since supports typically have a gap space between the model and the support which leaves hanging material
