Say goodbye to problems of the first layer!

Say goodbye to problems of the first layer!

How I create my models

I started developing 3D objects myself in 2010, when I got into 3D printing with Prusa Mendel. I still use the software I used back then: OpenSCAD. So if anything should not fit, let me know, adjustments are done with a few variables, because this model was also created from scratch in OpenSCAD.

Bed Tramming Procedure (Source: https://wiki.bambulab.com)

The Bambu Lab X1/P1 series printers come with the hotbed correctly trammed from the factory. Due to various shipping conditions, the bed trimming can be inaccurate.
To help solve this problem, we prepared a Bed Tramming Procedure to ensure the printing surface is perfectly leveled.

When to do it?

The bed leveling procedure should be done only if you notice an inaccuracy in the bed leveling, or if asked by the customer service team.

Prepare for Bed Leveling

Putting or not putting the plate is allowed during the procedure.

Before starting the bed leveling procedure, it's important to prepare the printer:

  • Ensure that the nozzle is clean and free from any filament on the tip. If needed, heat the nozzle and wipe the nozzle to ensure it is clean.
  • Check the bed leveling knobs and ensure they are correctly tightened. The bed screw and the knobs need to be flush, as shown in the image below.

Please note that the tension shown in the image below is used as a reference to start with the same amount of tension on each knob, when doing the leveling procedure.
It serves as a baseline and needs to be used with the included g-code below for the bed leveling procedure to be correctly done.

If you set the correct tension shown in the picture from the middle, it does not mean that your heatbed is correctly trammed, and you still need to go through the leveling process below.

Start the Bed Leveling Process

To begin the bed leveling process, first, download the attached g-code file, and transfer it to a MicroSD Card.

https://wiki.bambulab.com/x1/manual/bed-leveling/hotbed_tramming_20221102.gcode

Insert the MicroSD card, and “print” the g-code file, see pictures below (X1left, P1 right).

After the g-code file was loaded, the printer will home, then move over to the front left corner and wait for 30 seconds. When this happens, carefully turn the corresponding bed leveling knob until the printing surface barely touches the nozzle.
Please make sure that the nozzle is just touching the printing surface. The nozzle should not push against the printing surface, and there should be no gap between the nozzle and the bed

Tip: You can use a strip of paper. It should be possible to push the paper under the nozzle with a little friction. The resistance should be identical in all three positions.

After 30 seconds, the nozzle will move over the back bed leveling knob. Repeat the procedure until the nozzle barely touches the bed. The same will happen on the front right bed leveling knob.

When the first leveling is done, the process will be repeated two more times, this time with 15-second pauses, to allow you to fine-tune the adjustment and double-check the distance between the nozzle and the bed.

Repeating the procedure (if needed)

If at any point the bed leveling procedure needs to be repeated, ensure that all the steps are followed from the beginning of the guide.
The bed leveling knobs need to be tightened again, as instructed, before using the g-code file provided.

Calibration

From the printer screen, touch Controls > Utilities > Calibrate to start the calibration. If everything looks good and no errors or warnings appear during the calibration, the leveling was successful. If there are still problems, contact the service team for further assistance.

Do you like this model? That's great!
My wife doesn't like the fact that I'd rather develop and print 3D models than re-watch Grey Anatomy with her.
Maybe I can impress her with a few “boosts” or “thumbs up” 😊.
