---------

Welcome to the Image to Gyro Fidget Spinner customisable fidget generator.

This model uses the Maker World Parametric Model Maker - OpenScad environment.

What you can do…

  • Create a gyro fidget spinner of your own design - size, thickness, number of rings etc
  • Add images (SVG) with multiple colours to the fidget
  • Add text to the fidget

Easy to use!

If you want 3MF files for the spinners shown in the photo download them using the “Download STL/CAD files” selection on the model page.

Please post photos of your creations in the comments!

Instructions for use:

Follow the following steps to create your fidget. Remember to hit “Generate” after each step to update the model

After configuring Download the 3MF file into Bambu Studio, slice and print!

  1. Select the “Customize” button on the page (not supported on Bambu Handy App yet)
  2. Fill out the fields for Inner Diameter, Ring Thickness, Fidget Height (or use the defaults)
  3. Select the number of rings you want
  4. Select if you want the inner rings to be textured
  5. Enter the text to be added to the fidget (If blank outer ring will be textured)
  6. Enter the text font
  7. Select the base fidget colour
  8. Select the text colour

Image (logo)

I recommend using Inkscape for creating and editing svgs - an awesome piece of software!

Update - I have put some sample svg files here. Please refer to the xxx.txt file for the layer names and colours.

Update - now has support for different images top and bottom - V2 and above only.

  1. Select “Add Logo” - choose between “none”, “duplicate” (same logo both sides), “dual” (different logos top/bottom)
  2. Select “Position Mode”  - choose between “off” (for fidget generation), “top” (position top logo), “bottom” (position bottom logo)
  3. Upload your SVG file - top and bottom logos cab be defined, for “duplicate” mode only top logo details are used
  4. Adjust the course and fine scales to scale the image (note you may need to set the layer names and colours first - see below)
  5. Adjust the X and Y positions to locate the image over the fidget in the position you want.
  6. Adjust the rotation of the logo
  7. Turn off “Position Mode”

Image Layers and Colours

The generator uses svg Layers to create the different colours for the image. Your SVG needs to have a filled polygon for each colour on a separate layer. Layers names must be entered into the generator as they appear in the SVG file.

Important - The order of the layers is important. The “first layer” will be drawn first. The “second layer” is then drawn on top of the “first layer” etc.

I recommend using Inkscape for creating the SVG file. See below for more information.

  1. Enter the layer names and colours - note order is important!
  2. Up to 5 layers are currently supported.

Notes

  • Position Mode is only used to size and position the image on the fidget. Turn this off before generating the final fidget.
  • When in “dual” set the Position Mode to the side that you want to adjust the image on (top / bottom)
  • When in “duplicate” set the Position Mode to “top”
  • The layer name needs to be correct as it appears in the SVG (case sensitive)
  • Note for Inkscape uses - the order of the layers as they appear in the list in Inkscape is the reverse of what is required in the tool.
In Inkscape the layer on the bottom of the list is drawn first. In the fidget maker the layer on the top of the list is drawn first.

    Inkscape Layer List
  • Font Selection
    • To allow quick rendering of the selected text turn on TestText. This will only render the text and allow you to more quickly choose the font. Turn off for fidget generation!
  • SVG image
    • The generator uses different layers in the SVG file to work out what colours to use in the fidget
    • Each layer should be named (default names eg “Layer 1” are OK)
    • Each layer should contain closed polygons with no line width and filled with the appropriate colour

    • The fidget image is built by placing the first layer, then superimposing the second layer over the top, then the third etc. Order is important!
  • Very large svg images may not be able to be positioned using the generator. Please scale the image in Inkscape.
  • If the SVG image is not located on the “page” in Inkscape the image may not render in the generator.
  • Advanced options
    • Several advanced options are available - have a play!
