CHESS PRESTIGE

All-in-One Chess Set with Integrated Board and Storage

Portable & Foldable, Combining Practicality with Convenience

Advanced & Hidden Print-in-Place Hinges for Superior Functionality

Includes Embedded Magnet Versions for Each Board Size with Multiple Magnet Options

Print Instructions & Recommendations

  • It is highly recommended to clean the build plate with warm water and soap prior to printing to eliminate the potential adhesion problems.

  • No support is required.

  • This chess set has been successfully printed multiple times using PLA, making it the recommended filament choice. Other filaments, including PLA blends like PLA-CF, may have different thermal expansion properties, affecting print accuracy and fit.

Assembly Instructions

  • Assembly requires no additional tools, materials or post-processing. It is a simple print and play model. The caps securely hold the board and the pieces together.

  • For embedded magnet versions:

    • Each print profile includes 10 plates. Caps and checker pieces do not have magnet slots and should be printed in all cases. The remaining eight plates are for the board and pieces, designed for four magnet sizes: 8x2mm, 6x2mm, 5x2mm, and 4x2mm. To ensure compatibility, select and print only two plates, one for the board and one for the pieces, that match your chosen magnet size.

    • During printing, the profile will pause automatically at the designated layer, allowing you to insert the magnets before resuming. If your nozzle is magnetic, it may pull the magnets out of the slots when printing continues. To prevent this, apply a small amount of glue before resuming to secure the magnets in place.

Great print! Pieces can be tricky so just make sure your bed has been well cleaned with soap and water!

Hello! Thank you for your support and for printing the model. I truly appreciate it. I am also sorry for the issues you have encountered. May I ask if there is a specific piece that consistently causes the problem? If so, I would be happy to check the design and make adjustments as needed. During prototype prints, I always use Bambu Lab A1 and X1C to ensure the model prints successfully on both. However, occasional issues can still arise, often due to filament properties and thermal expansion characteristics. Based on what I see in the photos, most of the pieces seem to have printed fine. I have a feeling that the knight might be the problematic piece, as it has a small overhang designed to eliminate the need for supports. If this is the case, I can take a closer look and see if any refinements are necessary. I would appreciate your feedback so we can sort this out. Looking forward to your response!

Hello and thank you for the response! Yeah, I'm not quiet sure what is causing the issue. As of right now I am doing another attempt but this time I brought it into the slicer and added a small brim to every piece. I will get back to you in about 2 ½ hours with results. I'm not sure why they keep falling over because I never have issues with objects like this. (I have print tons of other chess sets for my friends) I am suspicious that the Z-axis is being lifted up enough at a certain point which just barely bumps them. So I sliced it myself in bambu studio with your settings. I'll see how this goes. Thank you, again!

I just finished the board in the 225x225 size. Came out great! Printing the lids now and will then print the pieces. My son chose these colors so I'm sure he will love it :) Printed in Panchroma CoPE at Ambient temps on the Darkmoon Ice Plate. For some reason, the back row is not as "smooth" as the rest of the board but that may be a me issue. It's still great! I will add more pictures once I finish printing the rest of the set.

Thank you for the support, the share, and your kind words! I hope your son enjoys it. This color combination looks fantastic. I will definitely give it a try with navy blue and white granite next time. Regarding the back row, if the surface quality appears rough and feels less smooth compared to the rest of the model, it is most likely due to slight warping around the corners. This often occurs when the build plate loses adhesion slightly. Fortunately, this can easily be prevented by cleaning the plate with warm water and soap before printing. For sets like this, I always recommend giving the plate a quick clean beforehand, just to be safe. Waiting for the rest of the model!

Yeah, I figured it was a "me problem". It wasn't due to lack of a clean plate though as I cleaned it right before. I printed with Cope filament at ambient temperature - I should have added a little heat. I'm still in the experimental stage with Cope and this was by far my longest print with Cope. I edited my post above and added a couple more photos (still need to print the white chess and checker pieces). Awesome print and profile! If there is one think I would modify, the tolerance in the lids could be a drop tighter. They unscrew a bit too easy. I can see it getting unscrewed in my sons knapsack or while traveling. It could be that's just a preference thing

Thank you once more for taking your time to share your results and providing the feedback! Greatly appreciated. Well, none of us would want that cap to unscrew and have to find and count to see if anything is missing. I will be updating caps to make it a tighter fit. Thanks for the insight! Also, I am sending a message to you.

hello! This looks great! However, my printer does not work well AT ALL with print in place objects. I as wondering if, when you have time, you could make the board individual pieces that snap together to make the finished product (The board, that is) That way I don't have to worry about it failing, and me wasting filament. Also, my printer cannot do multi colors, so i would need to print each individual board tile in alternating colors. If you cannot do this, that is no problem.

Hello, thank you for your message. I have received several requests to make the board printable in a single color with the option to assemble the tiles afterward, and that version will be made available soon. While I cannot promise a fully modular board with separate pieces, it is something I am definitely considering. I was also wondering if you have already tried printing this model or if you are sharing this concern based on past experience with print-in-place designs. If you would like, I can send you a test version of the chess board so you can check how it performs with your printer. Let me know, I would be happy to help.

I haven't tried printing it yet, but it would be great if you sent me a test version. I have had some bad experiences with print-in-place objects on my printer, which by the way is a Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro. (I believe that's what it is) So yeah, it would be great if you could send me a prototype. Thanks!

I had one magnet get sucked out by the hotend, but was able to open up the cover printed over it and get it back in.

Oh, that was a close call. Glad you got it sorted out, good job. Just curious, what size magnets did you end up using with your set? I would love to know.

I'm happy with how it turned out. With some effort, shaking, and a little luck I can get the whole chess set, extra queens, and the checkers to all fit inside the large version. I used 5mm magnets since I already had a bunch of them. They're not super strong, but it's enough to snap the pieces to the squares and play on an uneven surface without problems.

I'm not smart enough to rate this, it appears, but this is a 5-star design. Printed beautifully in PLA with zero issues at all. Granddaughter will love it! And maybe she'll teach me to play chess!
