Description

The Heavy Ball (Japanese: ヘビーボール Heavy Ball) is a type of Poké Ball introduced in Generation II. It can be used to catch a wild Pokémon, being more likely to succeed the heavier the Pokémon is. It is one of Kurt's signature Apricorn Poké Balls, and is made from Black Apricorns.

This 3D-printed model is an improved version of MrFozzie's original design. The hinge mechanism has been simplified and optimized to allow for in-place printing, improving both functionality and ease of assembly.

Key Design Improvements

  • Optimized Buttons: The inner and outer buttons have been redesigned to eliminate overhangs, enabling support-free printing.

  • Enhanced Hinge: The hinge mechanism has been modified to simplify printing and assembly.

  • Tailored Print Profile: The print profile has been specifically designed and tested for smooth and reliable results. The hinge features increased perimeters for added strength, while supports and seams have been carefully placed by hand.

  • Polished Finish: Outer parts include a variable layer height for a sleek and professional look.

Two printing profiles have been consolidated into one for convenience. You can choose between two hinge designs depending on your preference.

Assembly Instructions

Video Tutorial

A video showcasing the assembly mechanism of the original Poké Ball design is available for reference.

Assembly Steps

  1. Attach the Hinge: Glue the top and bottom pieces of the Poké Ball to the hinge mechanism. The piece with the hole for the button should be glued to the top.

  2. Insert the Button: The button does not require glue. Simply insert it into the ring, then glue the ring to the outer hinge and Poké Ball shell.

Final Product

This fully functional Poké Ball is designed as an accurate replica, made entirely from 3D-printed parts. Assembled with super glue, it features a working hinge and button mechanism. Pressing the button unlocks the catch, allowing the ball to open using the flexibility of the plastic as a spring. The hinge opens to a precise 90-degree angle and remains hidden when the Poké Ball is closed for a seamless appearance.

The button mechanism is also concealed, adding to the authenticity. All parts include alignment notches and grooves, ensuring an easy and accurate assembly process.

Turned out great. There isn't an inner platform provided (unless I missed it) so I used one from another pokeball file I have. This one is going to my husband. I'm seriously considering supporting for commercial access since I sell other pokeballs.
