Description

Year of the snake contest because.. well.. some people might call recent decisions about locking users out of Orcaslicer with walled gardens a little bit snake-like.  Yes, you Bambu.  I do feel this is pretty on-topic given that year of the snake is about symbolizing reflection, growth, and personal transformation, which Bambu needs to do.

A magnetic-backed (or sticky-taped-back) protest decal for your X1/P1 printer.  Align the bamboo wall so that it fits perfectly over the Bambu Labs logo to show your pride for freedom of choice and say no to Bambu's “security" change that inhibits easy use of Orcaslicer and other 3rd party software.

What’s the Issue?

  • Bambu Lab has implemented changes that restrict their printers to proprietary software, locking users into their Bambu Connect system and crippling the functionality of third-party slicers like OrcaSlicer. While some backlash forced them to ease restrictions slightly, the default experience remains unnecessarily complicated, pushing users into their unwanted middleware.

Why It Matters

  • Bambu Lab frames these changes as “security” improvements, but they amount to security-by-obscurity—the so-called “secret” keys have already been cracked. Instead of genuinely enhancing user security, they’ve created unnecessary barriers that prioritize their own goals over user choice and convenience.

Make your voice heard by spreading this message and proudly displaying this decal. By protesting these changes, we stand for:

Freedom of choice in how we use our devices.

Transparency over security claims and changes.

An open ecosystem for 3D printing enthusiasts.

About the Design

This decal is a fun project:

Customizable: Choose any color scheme to make it your own.

Easy Printing: Designed for minimal filament waste and a smooth finish when printed face-down.

Share this design, spread the word, and let Bambu Lab know that their customers demand freedom of choice. Together, we can send a clear message: Anti-consumer behavior has no place in the 3D printing hobby community.

Notes:

The file is large, but you can individually color the objects as you choose!  For the photo here I chose a simple B&W scheme, but you can use as many colors as you want.  As it is it only uses a handful of filament changes to keep waste down.

Print face down on the bed for a nice smooth finish.

As I wrote to them: "I am truly saddened by where you are attempting to take this. It reeks of the path trodden by HP with conventional printers, which is, frankly, horrifying." I think I found good use for my Boosts. >:) Thank you for your time and effort!

Yea, people are rightfully unhappy. Good intentions or no, this is destroying trust in the brand, and it's sad.
