Description

Have this knife in your tool box!   Branched from Over-engineered OTF into utility blade version.

Print profile default for Trapezoid.  18mm holder kit as a separate profile.

Or just print the dummy profile if you are not using it for utility blade.

Lots of patterns. Fully 3D printed except steel blade. Upgradeable, such as metal spring upgrade kit.

(This is a over-engineered model. Please always print using a print profile and DO NOT try to slice it yourself!)

Here you go some variants  Pro Utility Blade Holder, Xacto, 9mm Mini Pro, 9mm Nano, 18mm, trapezoid. Or check my model list. :P

OTF Pro Mini 9mm snap-off blade.

OTF Pro 18mm snap-off blade or Trapezoid.

OTF Original

OTF NANO 9mm snap-off blade or x-acto no11.

You can find these OTF variations in my model list. :P

EDC KUT version

This accurate model requires printing using the most reliable filament and printer settings. Good as a benchmark testing your machine and filament setup. If you are confident in your settings, you may want to try changing the filament. But you can also try the spring kit profile. This will, to some extent, force the overturning of certain errors. Please let me know the results. Good luck.

The main problem is warping: The front cut out becomes smaller. The blade failed to catch the spring for ejection.

Filament issues: The push lever is difficult to move(a common problem with silky), or if the parts need to sanded, this means you need to try a different filament colors/types.

Installation issues:  The latch lever is oriented in a "V" shape, not an "A" shape. Pull the blade all the way out (reference time 1:06 in the video) and the latch lever will prevent it from returning. Now you can install the top cover.

Trapezoid based on these brands (Stanley/Hart/DeWALT/Husky/Toughbuilt). Some brands need the smaller dowel blade holder (different print profile)

(Don't blame a model or print profile by giving a low rating. It won't help you to be successful with your next print at all!)

Based on the review feedback, you'll definitely want to print more than one to show off. So consider using monochrome printing and then mixing the parts. Save both times and materials.

****No hardware required.  But if you want to use metal spring, here you go the upgrade kit using BA001, BA002

****Based on my experience, not all PLA filaments are suitable for precision printing.

**** Profile well testing using PETG-HF and PLA Basic, Sparkle and Marble. Strongly suggest PETG-HF, especially for the spring. And the PLA Silk Dual Color is not good for this precision print.
****If mixing filament types (e.g. PETG with PLA) for multiple colors, it is best to disable flow calibration.

More pattern and print profile to be updated.

This one shares the same Build video link of the full-size version.

Or using optional metal spring upgrade kit.

Super cool design. People who print this and upgrade it to a real blade should check their state and local laws for switchblades. This thing fits the definition of one pretty clearly and it could get you into a bit of trouble where you may have innocently thought otherwise. Knife laws around switch blades, gravity knives, etc are all pretty dumb but you’ll still get hit with a hefty fine or worse if they find it on you.

Good point most automatic knife laws have provisions for length and use-case, because this isnt a dagger and could be considered a "tool" in my state due to length and blade. If you wonder the laws heres a good resource to look up for the US people. https://eknives.com/blog/switchblades-legal-your-state-know-your-rights

First, great work!! I printed in PETG, the print looks great with no issues. Put the print together and it doesn't want to push the blade out. Took it apart thinking I may have put it together wrong, but it still doesn't want to push the blade out, it will retract, however. What am I doing wrong?

Trapezoid blade installed? Is it the first OTF print?

yes blade is installed and yes this is the first OTF print. Printing the Power Up spring now. The blade will contract but not push the blade out at all.

I have few OTF and this one the front slot for the blade out is by design a bit tight to limit the trapezoid blade. You may try this to familiarize yourself with https://makerworld.com/en/models/980402

Great great knife tool! Thank you very much. Engineered to the most proper level! For me, the small springs did not work in any way but every large spring worked fine. Strongest spring works best for me. I used this dummy blade to make sure, that it will work before buying a set of these. >>> https://makerworld.com/de/models/740489 Material: PETG Layer height: 0.8mm to ensure the detailed outer hand grip.

Spring Kit. Multiple specifications in one set. Read desc.
The standard spring unfortunately did not function satisfactorily Now it works

FYI standard spring work well on my development and test with bambu petg HF and basic. But color pigment and batch, etc are kinds of factors that need a spring kit to make it completed.

First review and first thing I ever printed with PET G and first OTF print, I’m a fan of OTF knives so this was a perfect thing for me because I use a little OTF knife for opening boxes daily. It printed flawlessly on an enclosed Creality Ender 3 SE I am going to grab some utility blades today at lunch but it works without the blade so hopefully with the added weight it works even better. Great job with this model.

Oh, and will it work without the blade? It really surprised me. I've never tried this situation. LOL

Yeah worked flawlessly without blade and with blade i used Creality white PetG, I didnt even struggle putting it together (it does help knowing how OTFs operate though). I will be printing out a few more to have around in my toolboxes and ill probably be printing the upgraded spring mainly so the blade doesnt come out as far but you hit a homerun with this one and I will probably use it multiple times a day if I dont give it away first. Thanks again

Thank you for the awesome print! I've printed almost a dozen to mix and match with various results, depending on the filament I used. PLA seems to print perfectly and slides together seamlessly. However, I'm having trouble with PETG (and experienced the same issues with ABS). I intentionally printed exclusively from the app to eliminate variables and used a fully enclosed P1S with an AMS. The spools were fresh out of the box, and I also tried drying the PETG spools for 12 hours at 55°C (max temp) in a SUNLU S1 Plus after encountering failed prints. In the photo (from top to bottom): Bambu PLA Basic, Bambu PETG Translucent, and Bambu PETG-HF. Should I start adjusting the settings in Bambu Studio, or am I missing something? I completely understand that this isn't an issue with the model itself, but any guidance or a nudge in the right direction to improve would be greatly appreciated. I'm still new to 3D printing. Again, thank you for the fantastic print! I really enjoy experimenting with it and working to improve the results since proper printing is essential for it to function right off the plate.

Sorry seems my last reply to you become scramble characters. Let me reply again. We are both OCD. And we are dealing with FDM which is not easy to give guidance as the filament, color pigment, production batch, nozzle and sensor are all variables, from time to time. So I would say, "change filament" and trial and error. Btw. Challenge! https://makerworld.com/en/models/1038053

Thanks for the reply! I kind of expected this, so I already ordered some new PETG-HF to experiment with. I'll definitely give the Nano a try it looks awesome! And to all the people who failed to print and gave it a low rating: it's not the model's fault! Go back and try it again or just don't leave a rating and/or comment.

It didn't work for me but now that I see the images well for some reason my model has more "springs" that's why it doesn't have enough pressure to hide the knife, sometimes it worked but it was 1 or 2 times now I will try to print a new spring to see if it works

I downloaded the shorter spring kit but it came up too short but now it works more often although sometimes the blade doesn't come out .So I better remove the edge and download the other model without edge but the knife is still stored but sometimes it comes out and sometimes it doesn't.

Just got into printing. These were my 2nd print. Printed a few and gave them to family and friends. Then decided to see how big I can make one. 350% was the biggest I could fit. Had to make on a few plates. Not really funtional. But still cool.
