I have issues with my Bambu A1 printer where large prints will result in the corners of the build plate peeling up off the bed. This leads to more curling in the print than I would like.
There are some other clips available but I needed something less intrusive so I could use almost the entire print bed. These clips do exactly what I intended - hold down the corners of the build plate without interfering with the print.
However, I do not actually recommend using these or similar clips because:
- I found that the print instead just peels off the corners of the build plate, leading to an even worse quality print. I think what is happening is that the inner part of of build plate still gets pulled away from the bed, and the clips end up just folding down the corners, starting the peel. The corners of the print bed don't get to full temperature either, degrading adhesion where it is most needed.
- I think there is risk they could cause some problems with the printer now or later. Perhaps the bed bends from the extra tension. Or Bambu might change the printer g-code later to hit the clips. Who knows, it is all a bit sketchy.
I have uploaded the model primarily so folks don't design their own, only to also find they don't lead to desirable results.
For the least curl, I would suggest to instead print with Bambu PETG-CF. With my A1/Textured PEI plate, I get less than 1mm of warp across large, bed-filling prints.
If you would still like to give them a try, these is some technique to fitting them:
- Slide the bottom part of the along the bottom until you locate the underside screw hole of the bed. This is where the clip needs to be located.
- Unhook the clip from the screw hole.
- Locate the upper part of the clip over the build plate.
- Push the clip at the bottom until the clip locks into the underside screw hole. You are ready to print.
- To remove, use your thumb nail to pull the clip away from the underside.
The odd shaped clip is for the rear right. It needs to be this way as the A1 uses a trick with the rear right corner area to detect nozzle build-up. The fit is not as secure as the other corners. In my testing, the clip has stayed in position.
Printing tips:
- Peel off the brims after printing.
- The profile has an extra rear-right clip. This is to ensure a clean print. You can discard the extra or put aside as a spare.
- I printed mine in PETG-HF. I suggest some kind of PETG over PLA.
